ChatGPT doesn’t recommend your store. Here’s why.

You watched it name a competitor. Run the same check shopping agents run — get your store’s real agent-readiness score and the three fixes that lift you most.

The reasons

Six reasons AI shoppers skip a brand

Every recommendation an LLM makes is a synthesis across these dimensions. Score low on any two and you’re out of the answer.

Your product pages have no Product schema

Without JSON-LD on PDPs, agents can't reliably extract name, price, availability, or images. They skip you in favour of a brand they can parse.

Your reviews are visible to humans, not to agents

AggregateRating + Review schema is the #1 signal LLMs use to rank brands in shopping answers. Closed-schema reviews apps hide it.

Pricing is ambiguous in the markup

Sale state, currency, and the active price need to be in the Offer node. Ambiguity kills checkout intent in agent flows.

Catalogue thin or images missing

Agents weight breadth + image coverage. Sparse catalogues with image gaps lose to mid-catalogue brands with complete metadata.

No agent checkout surface

UCP / ACP / MCP endpoints are how an agent moves from "recommend" to "buy". Without one, you stay in the consideration set and out of the cart.

Returns policy not discoverable

Agents factor returns risk into recommendations. A clear, structured returns page is a quiet ranking lift most brands ignore.

What it looks like in the wild

Two queries, two brand sets

We asked ChatGPTMay 2026

“best D2C skincare brands for sensitive skin”

For sensitive skin, the brands that come up most consistently across product comparisons are Tower 28, ILIA Beauty, Drunk Elephant, Beautycounter, and Versed. Each has transparent ingredient lists and accessible review aggregations.

Brands cited:🇺🇸Tower 28🇺🇸ILIA Beauty🇺🇸Drunk Elephant🇺🇸Beautycounter🇺🇸Versed
We asked PerplexityMay 2026

“best D2C apparel brand for sustainable basics”

Most-cited names for sustainable basics: Pact, Quince, Everlane, Outerknown, and Allbirds. Pact and Quince surface most often because both have detailed material-sourcing pages plus consistent product schema.
